On President Trump's first day in office, he fired the first female Admiral to lead the Coast Guard. He claimed she was responsible for failing to secure the border and that she was excessively focused on DEI programs in the military. She had unanimous Senate support for confirmation in 2022. She had been a 40-year active service member, served on all seven continents, was the Pacific area commander, district and sector commander and a marine inspector.

Next out the door was the first female Chief of Naval Operations. She was a 20-year commander of multiple fleets like aircraft carrier strike groups and naval forces in Korea. No reason was given for her firing but many linked it to Pete Hegseth's general opinion that women should not serve in combat positions.

Hegseth has also fired a female lieutenant general who was the military assistant to the secretary of defense. She had been a pilot and navigator. Another women fired was the head of the military's Defense Health Agency, who had enjoyed a 32-year military career. No reasons were given for their dismissals.

Thanks to the Women's Armed Service Integration Act and despite prevalent gender discrimination and sexual harassment of female officers, women today serve in all branches of the military, in cobat roles and in leadership. But, no longer.... In the first 60 days in office, Trump has deprived the military of all of its female leadership - meaning there are no longer any female four-star generals or admirals in the US military.
